Sidney was named for Sidney, Ohio. The Sidney Iowa Championship Rodeo began in 1923. Penn Drug in Sidney dates from 1863. Tabor, former home of Tabor College (1853-1927), was the home of many abolitionists in the years before the Civil War, and John Brown spent the winter of 1857-58 there.
Here, rodeo is pronounced row-DAY-oh.
Waubonsie is usually pronounced WAW-bun-see. For the poem, it is pronounced waw-BON-see.
